How should I care for my enewton silver and mixed metal jewelry?Updated a month ago
We are committed to quality materials, such as sterling silver. As silver is prone to tarnishing, we worked with our manufacturer to develop a patented sterling silver tarnish-resistant alloy. That, coupled with some care and keeping by our customers, ensures that our silver and mixed metal products will retain their natural beauty and sparkle.
Believe it or not, the best way to keep your silver/mixed metal jewelry clean is to wear it! The natural friction of everyday movement “polishes” the metal and prevents tarnish from building up. To maintain enewton’s bright silver shine, it is ideal that you remove your enewton sterling pieces before exposure to water and before exposure to any harsh chemicals or environments. The reasoning is that exposure to these items may result in the darkening of the natural silver. Chlorine or salt pools, natural springs, lakes/ponds, lotions, beauty products, sunscreen, sweat, etc., all contain chemicals, minerals, elements, or compounds that contribute to tarnishing the sterling silver. The minerals in natural springs are especially notorious for causing silver to tarnish, discolor, and corrode.
To polish your enewton sterling silver and mixed metal, we recommend using a mild soap and water mixture or a silver cleaning solution such as JSP Silver Jewelry Dip Cleaner. While the product’s directions suggest otherwise, we recommend immersing your item for only 10 to 15 seconds, then rinsing with hot water. Prolonged exposure to the solution may permanently damage the silver surface. The process may be repeated if needed. Importantly, be sure to completely dry the piece before storing; a hair dryer on a cool setting can help dry inside beads on beaded items. For more advanced cleaning, you may use a soft polishing cloth to restore luster.
When you’re not wearing your silver or mixed metal jewelry, we recommend cleaning it first, then storing in a cool, dry, airtight container. Adding anti tarnish strips (available at many retailers) to the container is a great way to fend off tarnishing.
